Francis Norbert (Norb) DEJACO Sr.182 was born on 24 Jan 1914 in Newport, Kentucky.
330 Hodge Street. He was baptized on January 25, 1914 in Newport, Kentucky
at Saint Stephen Church by Rev. M. L. Leich. His sponsors were Francis DeJaco
and Caroline Case. He attended grammar school at St. Stephen Grade School.
As a youth, he was very active in the Boy Scouts of America, advancing to the
rank of Eagle Scout. It is said that he was the first Eagle Scout in Campbell
County. Later in the mid-1950's, he helped establish Boy Scout Troop 78 at Saint
Mary Parish in Alexandria. He served as its first scoutmaster. In 1932, he
graduated from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Between
1936 and 1975 he is an a painter and interior decorator for the John Shillito
Co (later Federated Department Stores) in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.
He lived (primarily) on his small farm on Old State Road #3 in Claryville,
Campbell County, Kentucky between 1941 and 1976. He and his wife
Virginia purchased the 42-acres of farmland in rural Campbell County from George
Wanner in 1940 for about $50 an acre [DB: 76/97]. Within six years the Kentucky
State Highway Department purchased US Highway 27 right-of-way of 3.8 acres from
them in 1946 [DB: 84/478]. Over the next 30 years the property was divided and
sold off in 5 parcels: eastern pasture along US-27 containing 3.5 acres in 1960
[DB: 115/562]; western fields containing 14.4 acres in 1969 [DB: 133/325]; fields
along US-27 containing 7.3 acres in 1973; the woodlot and orchard land containing
7.5 acres in 1975 [DB: 148/27]; and finally the homestead and surrounding property
of 4.2 acres in 1976 [DB: 152/10].

in Dayton (1938-39); 338 10th Street (apartment) in Dayton (1940); 109 East
Main Street in Alexandria (1940); Box 470 - Old State Road #3 in Alexandria

147 in Florence (1983-94).
He died on 10 Feb 1994 in Edgewood, Kentucky at Saint Elizabeth Hospital.
He was fortified with the last sacraments. He was buried on 14 Feb 1994 in
Alexandria, Kentucky, at Saint Mary Cemetery. From his obituary in
the Kentucky Post: NORBERT FRANCIS DEJACO, 80, of Florence,
died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South. He was a retired painter
for Shillito's and was the first Northern Kentucky Eagle Scout for the Dan Beard
Council. He was a member of the Painters District Council No 12 - Local 50.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Green DeJaco; daughters, Joan Blankenship of
Cold Spring, Mary Jane Baber of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; sons, Norbert DeJaco,
Jr. of Fort Mitchell, Michael DeJaco of Supply, North Carolina, and Frederick
DeJaco of Fayetteville, North Carolina; sisters Della Marie Cassini and Mildred
Wise, both of Cincinnati, Lucille Hoenemeyer of Madison, New Jersey; brothers,
Ferd DeJaco and Gerard DeJaco, both of Cincinnati, and 10 grandchildren. Mass
of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. at Saint Joseph Church, Cold Spring, with
prayers at 9:30 p.m. Monday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will
be in Saint Mary Cemetery, Alexandria. Memorials are suggested to the American
Cancer Society. Francis Norbert (Norb) DEJACO Sr. and Virginia Elizabeth
TRAYLOR DeJaco were married on 26 Jan 1938 in Newport, Kentucky at St. Stephen
Catholic Church. Rev. Walter Greskamp officiated at the wedding.
