Joannes Dominicus (Dominik) DA JACO45 was born on 4 Aug 1790 in Campill/Longiarü, Tyrol
(Crownland of Austria) at Laguscél. He died on 21 May 1834 in
Campill/Longiarü, Tyrol (Crownland of Austria) at Laguscél.
He lived in Land Tyrol, a crownland of Austria.
In the year 1805 the War of the French Third Coalition with Austria began, and
Austria was defeated at the Battle of Austerlitz. Napoleon then awarded the
Austrian crownland of Tyrol to the newly formed Kingdom of Bavaria, France's
military ally. Bavaria had instituted major social reforms at the turn of the
century, becoming one of the more modern states in Germany. It was felt that
the newly acquired Tyrolean province could benefit from the process of modernization.
The Bavarian administration gradually implemented its policies, brought the
Church under state control, increased taxes, and consolidated local administrative
offices making them accountable to Munich.
Bavaria then dissolved the Tyrolean state in the year 1808, thereby igniting
a number of insurrections. Tyrolean freedom fighters under Andreas Hofer successfully
ousted the Bavarian regime even from Innsbruck. Meanwhile Austria formed a new
coalition against France in the year 1809, and encouraged the Tyrolean revolt.
But the imperial Austrian army was then defeated by Napoleon at Wagram, and
the treaty of Schönbrunn was signed. The French then converged on Tyrol,
and the rebellion was bloodily crushed. The land of Tyrol was divided into three
departments - the Departmento Alto Adige or Trentino-Bozen basin was awarded
to Italy, the larger Inn Valley sector remained part of Bavaria, and the eastern
Puster Valley sector was annexed to the newly formed Illyrian state. Now Tyroleans
were forced to fight in Napoleon's military campaigns.
After Napoleon's final defeat in the year 1815, Austria once again took possession
of Tyrol militarily, and was granted political control by the Congress of Vienna.
But this time the Austrian regime itself was decidedly more oppressive. Under
the authoritarian political leadership of Prince Klemens von Metternich, Austria
was transformed into a tightly organized, centralist police state where special
privileges for the various classes or specific regions had absolutely no place.
