John S. Oxley
Obituary

Mr. John S. Oxley died at his residence, east of Marion, in Linn County, Iowa at seven o'clock Friday evening, November 15, 1878. He had been confined to his bed by paralysis for fourteen months and ten days.

The deceased was born near Lexington, Kentucky, December 23, 1807, and removed to Indiana, where he was married to Jane Halley in 1831. In 1841 he removed to Linn County, Iowa, where he continued to reside until his death.

He was one of the earliest settlers of this community and was an enterprising, honorable citizen whose memory will be cherished by his very many friends. For five years he had been a follower of the Lord, converted under the labours of Rev. Haymond. He was a good husband, father, and neighbor. He leaves a wife and eight children to mourn his loss.
