Malinda Jane Wiggington (1840 - 1922), daughter of John Wiggington, died on 25 December 1922 in St. Albans, WV. Several years before her death, she lived at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Allie (Alice Margaret) and Wilbur May.

The following is extracted from the Journal of the Kanawha Valley Genealogical Society, Vol. 4, No. 11, November 1980:

Malinda was 5’ 3" tall and had brown eyes and grey hair, which must have been dark in her earlier years. She was small but less than a striking beauty. But her appearance was always neat. Her everyday apparel was of gray or black calico, but for dress-up affairs she always chose black taffeta. This pleasing image and her lively conversation made her a very interesting person. She was a well-read woman, but her favorite book, the Bible, gave her special pleasure. Both she and her husband Nathaniel Oxley were on the roll of the Town Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Franklin County, VA. Reflecting her English background, Malinda continually admonished the children saying, "My laws, child, you can’t go outside without covering your head, hands, and arms." One could not even hang laundry on an outside clothesline without being properly protected from the rays of the sun.

Nathaniel was his wife’s opposite. He was tall; he was a blond; he had blue eyes and a fair complexion.
