Will of Bethany Oxley Rice
In the Name of God Amen I Bethany Rice being much indisposed in body and knowing that it is appointed unto all men to die, Do make and ordain this my last will and Testament, (being in sound disposing mind and memory) first of all I commit and command my soul to God who gave it, trusting in his acceptance thereof, through the merits of his dear son, Jesus Christ our saviour and my body to the hands of my Executor (herein after named) to be buried in a decent and Christian manner at their discretion. I next proceed to the disposition of the little worldly goods it hath pleased the Lord to bless me with in the manner following to wit I bequeath and [ line missing ] property of whatever description, I will and bequeath to my Brother Evrett Oxley & Ede Morris aforesaid to be equally divided between them, after the payment of my Just debts & all necessary expenses, for the true and faithful Execution of this my last will and testament I appoint my two nephews Thomas & Evrett Saunders my Executors as witness my hand and seal this 15th day of August 1821

At a court held for loudon County Sep 9th 1822 This last will and Testament of Bethany Rice decd was presented to the Court and proved by the oaths of John Saunders & Presley Saunders two of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Everett Saunders one of the Executors therein named who made oath thereto according to law and together with Thomas Saunders his security entered into and acknowledged their Bond in the penalty of one thousand five hundred Dollars with condition according to law certicate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form - Thomas Saunders the other Executor in open Court refused to qualify thereto -
