[2876] 1.) John A. Jameson was "employed as telegraph operator and agent of
the P., C. & St. L. R.R. Co. for sixteen years at their offices at
London, Pendleton and South Lebanon" (Beers 752).
2.) "For more than eighty-five years one of the well-known families
of Warren county has been that bearing the name of Jameson. Members
of this family have engaged principally in agriculture, although some
have also followed business careers and the name is not unknown to
public life or to professional effort, and the men bearing it have in
all cases shown themselves worthy, dependable and honorable
particpants in whatever field of endeavor they have been found, and
public-spirited and progressive citizens. A worthy representative of
the name is found in John A. Jameson, who, after many years spent in
successful agricultural operations in now living in comfortable
retirement at Lebanon....John A. Jameson received his early education
in the public schools of the country district and was reared as a
farmer. Like many other young men, born and reared on the farm,
however, he was attracted by the possibilities held out by the great
extension of the railroads and the alluring promises that seemed to
give opportunities of a free life and much adventure. In 1866 he went
into the railroad service and continued therein until 1882, when he
returned to the farm and resumed the tilling of the soil and the
harvesting of crops. His good management and marked industry served
to bring good results, so that in November 1913, he was able to retire
from his labors and to move to his comfortable, modern home, in
Lebanon, where he is now living, surrounded by the comforts which come
to those who have labored faithfully and industriously, and by a wide
circle of friends and well-wishers. Mr. Jameson is a veteran of the
Civil War, having been in the 100-day service, as a member of Capt.
S.B. Morris' company 146th regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He is a
Republican, but has never sought political preferment. With the
members of his family, he belongs to the Main Street Presbyterian
Church" (Memoirs of the Miami Valley, vol. 3; page 131-132).

her headstone states 1844. I tend to believe the headstone, as the
information on it was likely supplied by her family, and is therefore
more likely to be correct.
