1.) "Was a river man" (D. Jean Pelz) (see General DocumentationSources on Samuel Stewart).
2.) This man's name is given as Samuel in the obituary of hisdaughter, Lillian Stewart Keller.
[210] 1.) I remember reading in some notes written by Mary E. (Moss) Pelzthat Sam Stewart "was a river man."
[204]
1.) Approximate YOB from Census Record #8 and 1870 PA census for
Pittsburgh (8th ward), Solomon STEWART household.
[208]
1.) Around April 2000, I queried the Allegheny Co., PA., Register of
Wills and Clerk of Orphan's Court for death records for Solomon
Stewart & Mary Ann Clarke. Nothing was turned up. As they noted,
"prior to 1905, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania did not require the
immediate registration of Birth and Deaths [sic]. Subsequently, many
pre-1905 births and deaths are not officially recorded."
[214]
1.) I checked the 1880 census index for Allegheny county, looking for
SAM, SAMUEL, SAUL, and SOLOMON Stewart. The only record I found that
followed the profile for this family was that of Solomon Stewart. I
am reasonably sure that this was our family.
2.) Enumeration date 14 June 1880.
[216]
1.) Enumeration date 7/21/1870. In late April 1999, Billie Rood, who
owns a 1870 census index CD for Allegheny county, PA, performed a
lookup for Sam/Solomon Stewart for me. Two Samuels turned up, and one
Solomon. I am quite sure that the one Solomon Stewart household
enumerated was that of my g.g.grandfather, Solomon Stewart. This was
further corroborated by later information and seeing the actual census
record on microfilm.
[4139]
1.) I am inferring this date range for the marriage of Solomon
Stewart and Elizabeth Clarke from the DOB of the last child of Solomon
Stewart and Mary Ann Clarke (who was Elizabeth Clarke Stewart) and the
YOB of the first child of Solomon Stewart and Elizabeth Clarke (who
was Annie Gray Stewart).
