1.) Stephen B. Probasco "received his education in the subscription
schools of his day, and early commenced the work on a farm, at which
he continued until his death. . . . Mr. Probasco was a hard-working,
ambitious farmer, and, at the time of his death, had acquired a fine
farm of 200 acres of rich, arable, well-improved land. He left a fine
property, upon the income of which his widow now supports herself in
ease and comfort, having retired from the farm and taken up her
residence in Lebanon" (History of Warren County 771-72).

1.) "In 1790, with his wife and two children, [Samuel Dick] came
West, and settled in the small border village of Cincinnati where for
a number of years he kept a tavern. He took part in the struggles of
the settlers, and was one of the party of rescuers that started out to
relieve the whites in Colerain Station, which was besieged by Indians.
"Samuel Dick, industrious and enterprising, purchased large
tracts of land on Dick's Creek, in Warren County, and on the Great
Miami, in Hamilton County, where he subsequently established his home"
(In Memoriam. . .67-68).
