1.) It is stated in In Memoriam. . . that Jeremiah Morrow, "the
subsequently famous Governor of Ohio" was Rebecca Morrow Cochran's
brother (9).
2.) "The first [of John Morrow's children] to emigrate to the West
was the eldest son, Jeremiah, who arrived at the mouth of the Little
Miami in the spring of 1795" (ibid. 54).
3.) According to the preface to "The Pioneer Writings of Josiah
Morrow," Jeremiah Morrow was Ohio's sixth governor.
4.) Mary Parkhill, Jeremiah Morrow's wife, was also his cousin (In
Memoriam 55).
5.) According to Beers, Jeremiah Morrow was father of 11 children
(632) -- I have only 9 listed so far.
6.) According to an article photocopied from E. James Cochran (from
the Cincinnati Enquirer, Sunday, 23 Apr 1961, section G, page 9,
titled, "Morrow, Butt of Puns, Named for Early Governor"): Jeremiah
Morrow came to the Northwest Territory with his family in 1795; was
elected to the Ohio Territorial Congress in 1801; elected to the
Territorial Senate in 1803, as well as to the National Congress in
that year, serving "10 years as the sole representative of Ohio in the
Lower House"; was named commissioner to treat with the Indians west of
the Miami River in 1814; was a U.S. senator in 1815-1819; was governor
of Ohio in 1822-1825; was canal commissioner 1820-1822; and was again
elected to Congress in 1841.
This article also notes that "Morrow is almost exactly of the
long obliterated site of 'Mount's Station' which disputes with
'Bedel's Station," now Union Village, the honor, if any, of being the
first settlement in Warren county."
[481] 1.) Place of birth from "Morrow, Butt of Puns..."
[485] 1.) Place of death from Beers' "History of Warren County."
[488]
1.) Jeremiah Morrow's current (as of Jan. 1997) headstone was erected
30 May 1951 by the alumni of the Twenty Mile Stand School. Info
gathered by John C. Pelz, Jan. 1997.
