INDEX

[1128] 1.) The following biographical description of Josiah Morrow is taken
from the preface of "The Pioneer Writings of Josiah Morrow," edited by
Dallas R. Bogan:
"It is indeed rare that one who collected history could also
write on this subject. Such was the case of Mr. Josiah Morrow, the
grandson of the sixth Governor of the State of Ohio, Jeremiah Morrow.
Mr. Morrow wrote articles for the Western Star, a weekly
newspaper situated in Lebanon, Ohio. His first article evolved May 9,
1907 and his last article appeared May 24, 1928, a total of over
twenty one years writing about what he saw as a preservation of the
past. This encompasses more than one thousand articles. I have
chosen sixty-eight articles which I have tried to embrace Mr. Morrow's
generalities in his writings. . . .
Mr. Morrow was also the author of a large portion of Beers' 1882
History of Warren County, Ohio.
Josiah Morrow was born in Warren County, Ohio. August 26, 1838,
in the Twenty Mile Stand area [sic]. He was the son of John and Nancy
Espy Morrow. He spent 90 years, four months and two days on this
earth having passed away December 28, 1928 [sic]. He was a life long
resident of Warren County, but he was buried in Union Cemetery, along
with his grandfather, Governor Jeremiah Morrow, in nearby Hamilton
County.
Securing a good education for this period of time was an
achievement. Mr. Morrow studied at Miami University of Oxford and
graduated in 1859. He read law under the guidance of Tom Corwin and
George R. Sage.
He practiced law for a few years, but apparently got caught up in
gathering and writing history and eventually gave up his law
practice."
