[2247] 1.) Joseph G. Foster served in the Civil War, "and served in the same
regiment as his brother [William S.]. Army life broke down his boyish
constitution, and he returned to his home a mere wreck of his former
self. He departed this life after a long struggle for life Jan 30,
1875. . .He left a young wife and four children to mourn his untimely
death. His wife, however, did not long survive her husband, as one
year later she died" (Beers 977).

[2249] 1.) DOB inferred from age at death and DOD given on page 977 of

[2523] 1.) A funny anecdote written by Ber Boyd, in his 4 Apr 1998 e-mail to
me: "Lorna swears [this story is] God's own truth!
In the 'olden days,' pounds of butter, and later quarter pounds,
came wrapped in a paper coating in their package...Naturally a small
amount of butter remained on the paper when it was unwrapped. Being a
good German hausfrau, never wasting a thing, Tante Anna Wanke Zenk
apparently decided that this coating of butter would be good for her
hair--keep it slicked down or whatever she wanted it to be--so she
would rub the butter off in her hair. End of story, but obviously
something so delightfully weird that it has lasted for four
generations of hilarious snickering amound the descendants. You can
imagine all sorts of extensions to the story, like what did her hair
smell like, and did she ever find the cat licking her hair at night,
and for that matter, what did her pillow slips look like, and what did
Herr Zenk think when he had the urge to cuddle her, etc., etc?"

[2526] 1.) Exact DOD from Mary E. Pelz's (neé Moss) "little brown notebook."
