1.) This individual's first name may have been Jacob: the 1840 census
for Conoquennessing Twp., Butler co., Pennsylvania lists one Jacob
"Voldenbaugh" as head of household on page 55. The accompanying age
ranges fit those of wife, Catherine, daughters Catherine & Mary, and
son John. The household of Andrew Coldenbaugh is enumerated on page
45; both Andrew & Jacob fall within the 30-40 age range in 1840.
Based on info from later censuses, I think Andrew & Jacob may have
been brothers.
One Henry Kalabough (?), in the 60-70 age-range, is enumerated on
page 63 of the 1840 Pennsylvania census for Butler county, in
Cranberry Twp. I wonder if he might be the father of Jacob and/or
Andrew? That perhaps Henry Kalabough (?), as head of the Caltenbach
clan, emigrated from Baden, Germany to America, sometime prior to
1840? This is one general direction my current (as of 24 March 1998)
info points, but it is only a possibility, until more definitive info
can be obtained from Butler county.
2.) I have obtained photocopies of 5 pages pertaining to one Jacob
KELTENBACH from the Butler county courthouse; the papers were filed in
late 1850 and 1851. No will was found. These papers make no
reference to any relatives, although Andrew KALTENBOGH (variously
spelled on the same page, no less!) is mentioned several times on page
3, the "vendue list": an inventory of to whom various possessions of
the estate were sold.
[2264]
1.) Approximate range of YOD is inferred from the 1880 census record
for "K[atharine] Kaltenbaugh" in Connoquenessing twp., Butler co., PA,
in which Katharine is recorded as a widow.

1.) From Vol. 5, p. 622 of The Compendium of American Genealogy:
"6 - Sarah [JUNKIN] (d. 1813), m 1750, Lt. John COCHRAN (d. 1783),
removed to Waynesboro, Pa., 1750; served in [the] P[ennsylvani]a
Ba[ttalion], "Flying Camp," [during the] American Revolution."
2.) In discussing the American descendents of Sir John Cochrane of
Paisley (ca. 1570), (ie- my line) it is stated in "In Memoriam: John
Morrow Cochran. . ." that Dr. John Cochran was George Washington's
surgeon-general during the Revolutionary War (32). I wonder if this
is the same John Cochran that this entry concerns?
3.) The info taken from The Compendium... must be viewed skeptically
until good documentation for given info can be found. The 2 entries
in volumes 4 and 5 have some suspicious info. The primary culprit is
the statement in vol.5 that John Cochran married Sarah Miller in 1750.
If so, according to info in vol.4, John C. would have been 8 years
old at the time of his marriage, as his dates in vol.4 are 1742-1783.
I know that people married young in those days, but I think age 8 was
a wee too young even then.
It is important to remember that succeeding volumes of the
compendium supposedly correct erroneous info contained in earlier
volumes. And I do notice that no year of birth is given for John
Cochran in volume 5-- only a year of death.
Actually, taking this latter fact into account, it would seem
that the given year of marriage might be more reliable, as marriage
info is given in vol.5. Until I can definitively prove vital stats
for John and Sarah Cochran, I will assume that they were, in fact,
married in 1750, and that John Cochran was born earlier than the given
1742. According to "In Memoriam. . ." James Cochran (from whom I am
descended), brother of John, was born in 1732 (for reference).
Ultimately, though, it must be admitted that at least SOME info
for John Cochran can be considered suspect.
4.) 14 Mar 1997 -- at this point, I think that the dates given
concerning John Cochran in Volumes 4 & 5 of "The Compendium of
American Genealogy" are incorrect, in light of info obtained this week
from LDS film, batch 5016416, sheet 31. See citation for film-source
info.

1.) YOD for Taylor Cochran taken from his headstone, located in
Greenwood cemetery, Hamilton, OH. Section C. I take it from my notes
(collected 1/5/1997) that Taylor's info is inscribed on the same stone
as Hannah Cochran. Buried near his stone are the following: Albertus
G. Cochran (1874-1927); Elizabeth (1913-1970), John W. (1909-1967);
Sadie E. (1883-1968); Doc Iris (1878-1938)
[823] 1.) Enumerated in the Taylor Cochran household in the 1800 census wasMary E. Gillespie, sister of Hannah, and one William Wallen, whoserelation to the head of the household (Taylor C. Cochran) is listed as"servant," and whose occupation is listed as "farm laborer."
