The Coalition for a Drug-Free Greater Cincinnati was conceived by Congressman Rob Portman as a result of his and constituent concerns about increasing problems associated with substances abuse in our region. The coalition was formed to implement a comprehensive, long-term strategy to prevent and treat substance abuse one individual at a time. The Coalition is engaging every sector of our community in implementing specific, proven initiatives to reduce substance abuse.
This strategy includes the mobilization of five specific task forces effecting multiple aspects of our community. A "Parents Task Force " whose goal is to increase parent involvement to reduce adolescent substance abuse, by providing intensive training to parents, community leaders, school personnel and other interested parties. A "Media Task Force" that includes all the major local TV, majority of radio stations and major local newspapers. The media's strong support has created one of the most aggressive anti-drug media campaigns in the country. The "Workplace Task Force, " is working with
Ohio Bureau of Worker's Compensation to offer discounts to employees that have certified drug-free workplace programs. The "Community Task Force," is working with faith leaders to communicate anti-drug messages from the pulpit and encouraging follow-up church forums to educate and mobilize people. The "Criminal Task Force" has created a speakers bureau to communicate the anti-drug message and to educate the public and supplement to the DARE program in community centers, churches, and schools.
The members that make up this coalition include people from every sector of our community. These volunteers include business people, religions leaders, parents, educators, grassroots activists, law enforcement, media, students and health care professionals.
