In the spring of 1990, my good friend Willy Grady and myself began
to plan an overnight canoe trip on the Ohio River. At the time, we
both worked at GE Aircraft Engines in Cincinnati, Ohio. We had been
inspired by a co-worker named Duane Tanis who is now retired. Duane
had told us his story of canoeing from Cincinnati, Ohio to
Louisville, Kentucky in a week, camping along the way. They had
discovered a dead body along the way, as well as, enjoyed the beauty
of the Ohio River valley. Willy and I decided to give it a try, but
certainly we would only be out one night and span 28.4 miles in two
days. We had so much fun, we have made it an annual event. Our
yearly trips quickly turned into expeditions as others such as my
brother Dave, my brother-in-law Rodney and my cousin John have joined
in. Here is a list of our trips. All Ohio River mile markers indicate
the number of river miles from the origin (Pittsburgh, PA).
