1965 Bob Dylan (formerly a wannabe short stop named Zimmerman) shows up at the Newport Festival with an electric guitar. The folk community has mixed feelings, but suddenly lyrics assume a great deal more importance in rock and roll. Granted this does not mean they are all that good. Like an early live journal, sometimes the angstier the better.

1966 the Monkees TV show begins. Rock and Roll loses its purity big time..but while chuckling.

1967 Cream release their first two albums (rumour has it that they do not remember the rest), The Beatles release Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band, not to be confused with the movie of the same name that came out a few years later for several weeks.

In America the Monterey Pop Festival was first held,the first open air festival venue for Rock. Filmore West became the place to play.

And in San Francisco it was the Summer of Love. Rock and Roll became a lifestyle with the addition of better living through chemistry. Flower Power,Love Ins,Electric Kool Aid Acid Tests and free music everywhere. It was the beginning of a future that was to be very short lived.
