Grisly Murder Shocks Police and Residents

Sacramento, CA - At 11:45 PM, the body of Julie Nichols, 19, was discovered by passersby in an alley off of 7th Street. The first officers arriving on the scene refused to go near the body and held those who had reported it at bay until Coroner Edward Dean and the CSI team appeared, and even the Coroner and several forensics specialists were visibly shaken. This was all just three blocks from where a PLA group held 114 people hostage for four hours.

"I've never seen anything this grotesque," Inspector Charles Flowers told us. "It matches with pure disgust what the Manson murders did to us psychologically."

Coroner Dean's face was so wrought with distress as to be almost unrecognizable but said, "[Unknown] took her apart," at the scene.

One of the individuals who discovered the body told us this while in tears: "I could only look back at her after they covered her up. She was smiling, and looked like she'd been crying. What could make her do that? What could do this?"

Experts place the time of death at 11:30 PM. The victim had been lain out with her organs placed on either side. With uncanny precision, the killer removed every abdominal and chest organ, and partially removed the tongue. The tongue has not been found.

A scalpel caked with her blood had been placed in her right hand, the fingers placed around it after her time of death. However, evidence indicates that she was alive for the removal of all or most of her organs. Given that information, police have been unable to say with certainty the cause of death.

"It must have been shock," said Coroner Dean.

Inspector Flowers revealed that Nichols was a known solicitor, having been picked up on that charge several times previously. He was unwilling to say whether he had any suspects. He did; however, speak to local residents: "I am urging people to not remain out on the street alone after dark while this crime is being solved."

"Based on testimony of people at the scene, we believe the whole length of the crime was 10 or less minutes. No cries of distress were heard, and the body was placed well out of sight. This all indicates that we are dealing with someone who is very good at what they do."

Letter Received From Killer

This letter was sent directly to our editor on the day of the murder, before the body was found. Police are currently analyzing the letter.

"I guess you found her by now. I kept the tongue. She was an enchanting bit. It has been awhile since my last letter but I only wanted to show you how it is done right and proper. You have helped me bring dark things into the light to keep darker things in sedation. I have grown bored of all this.

Now the antithesis of the grand work has become my goal, but my craving demanded one last tasty treat. This should be my last step backwards. A true work of art I think you will agree.

In a way, I hope you codgers will miss me. Whether I open the way or someone puts an end to my story, I hope to know the answer soon.

[word smeared] wishes,

Old Friend Jack"
