Tongue
Over the past couple of years, the tongue has become our most popular piercing.
Not only can tongue piercings be extremely fun, they are also normally
hidden from view for those people who can not get facial piercings due
to concerns at their job, school, etc. Barbells are the best jewelry choice
for a new tongue piercing. Since new tongue piercings usually swell, sometimes
a lot, your piercer will generally select a barbell about 1/2" longer than
the thickness of the tongue at the piercing. Most often your tongue will
swell to it's biggest point when you wake up the day after it is pierced.
It will then slowly go down over the next couple of weeks. Most of the
swelling, soreness and tenderness will go away after 3-5 days. All of it
is usually gone after 10-15 days. After 10-15 days you can come back and
have a shorter post inserted into your piercing that more closely fits
your tongue. Posts can be purchased seperately, as can additional balls.
Rings or circular barbells can also be worn in piercings very close to
the tip of the tongue, when healed.
