A nerve signal is actually just a continuous chain of ions diffusing through a neural membrane. Neural boosting augmentation acts to modify the neural membrane through which this diffusion occurs, as well as the sodium/potassium pump which is responsible for resetting the nerve after a pulse has past. The result is the ability to transmit faster pulses. This differs from synaptic accelerators, which act to increase neural signal density by encouraging nervous tissue expansion.
Neural boosters are compatible with synaptic accelerators, but they are not compatible with wired or boosted reflexes. Neural boosters do not assist in rigging or decking.

[Look out, I've heard
rumors about how these things make taser attacks a living nightmare. It
seems that the improved diffusion rate also means you can get fried at
an improved rate.]
Kejana
[Well, it doesn't look
like much, but this helps to make synaptic accelerators a bit more justifiable.
Besides, these are quite a bit easier on the body than being wired.]
Solace
[Like you'd know! You're
so wired, you can pick up every fraggin' radio station across the Sea-Tac
area! I think the military fried your brain, vat boy. Of course, I heard
that some of my buddies in the NAN might like to have a look at some of
your not-so-organic toys.]
Gravewalker
[You talk too much, my
friend.]

[Hey Gravewalker, you
still there?]
