Crosslink Adapter

Under normal circumstances, it isn't possible to use two smartlinked firearms at the same time. This problem has been corrected with the crosslink adapter.

The crosslink adapter is actually a piece of headware that performs a switching operation. Only one smartlink display will be visible at any given time. If the weapon that is currently on-display is fired, its display will vanish and will be replaced by the smartlink display for the second firearm. This process is a continuous back-and-forth operation. If two firearms are in use, but only one is smartlinked, then the firearm containing the smartlink will hold the display until another smartlinked firearm is picked up. At that point, the display will switch off to the new firearm.

There may come a time when it will be desireable to have the crosslink adapter switch back to the previously-fired firearm before the second is fired. A switch back to the just-fired weapon can be accomplished by issuing a simple cybernetic command (requiring a free action).

A crosslink adapter can only be used with two smartlinks -- it is not possible to buy a smartlink and a crosslink adapter just to use two firearms with only one smartlink. The smartlinks being used also require some modification or upgrade. Add 20% to the cost of each smartlink upon purchase (if new), or the user can see a street doc and have a minor alteration made to each existing smartlink (1500 Y for the whole process).

No special adjustments or costs are necessary for using internal weapon smartlinks or smartlink adapters -- they can be used right off the shelf (as opposed to the smartlink cyberware). The crosslink adapter does not alter the rules regarding the penalties of using two weapons at once, and a crosslink adapter cannot be used with smartgoggles.
