October 2002
The weather held out and we had a beautiful day for our annual Walk-a-Thon. A very special THANK YOU to Linda Green, Christy Vigil and all the parent volunteers that helped throughout the day. We appreciate all the time and energy that Linda and Christy put into planning and organizing this major fundraiser. We also extend a special thank-you to Linda’s Mom and Dad who helped throughout the day – Linda’s Mom even helped out in the cafeteria between walk-a-thon shifts! Another special thank-you to Carol Ollier. Carol was cranking her snow cone machine all day long. The students, teachers and many volunteers all enjoyed the tasty treats throughout the day. Thanks to everyone who sponsored the walk-a-thon, donated prizes, and pledged the students. This event is more than a fundraiser. It is an opportunity to show our pride and St. Michael School spirit. The total profit will be announced at the Walk-a-thon assembly.
It was great to have standing room only at our first PTO meeting. The results of the Interest Survey is as follows:

The PTO website is now updated thanks to Peggy and Tony Platz. The website address is: http://home.fuse.net/stmichaelpto
Nora Posge is still in need of parents to assist in supervising the children during lunch recess. Please contact Nora if you can help!
Remember to keep saving your General Mills Box tops and Campbell Soup Labels. Last school year we collected 27,925 labels! These labels have not yet been redeemed and will continue to grow with this year’s collection. Once the teachers are back at St. Michael’s they will be able to determine what is needed for the classrooms. It is easy to help! Just save and send to school the labels from any of the hundreds of varieties of Campbell’s products. Collection boxes can be found in every homeroom. If you have any questions, please contact Janis Freese or send a note home with Cris Freese – 6H.
Attached is a copy of the St. Michael P.R.I.D.E. Embroidered Apparel Order Form. The Navy and White P.R.I.D.E. sweatshirts can be worn to school as part of the child’s uniform. If you are interested, complete the order form and enclose a check payable to St. Michael P.T.O and send it to school in an envelope labeled – PRIDE WEAR – Courtney Helgeson 8E.
Stacy Asbrock still has Lazarus Earning for Learning cards for sale. Earning for Learning cards will be available at the October PTO meeting on Tuesday, October 17 but the cards will expire after 10/31/02. You can also order them by sending a request with the following information: your name, your child’s name and homeroom, number of Earning for Learning cards requested, and a check written to St. Michael PTO. Please send the information to Stacy through Kenton Asbrock (2L).
Our next PTO meting will be held October
15th at 7:00pm in the St. Michael School Assembly Hall. Babysitting
will be provided in the classrooms. Tricia Vondenbrink will present
an overview of the newly purchased Art Attack program. She
will also describe the parent volunteer opportunities for parents that
are interested in assisting with the art program in the classroom.
We strongly encourage everyone to attend. If you have any questions
or suggestions, please feel free to contact any of the PTO Board members
by phone or e-mail.
