rhombus Anchor

One of the things I like about Hex is simply the shape of the board itself. With two obtuse corners and two acute corners, the playing area is symmetrical and asymmetrical at the same time. A strategic dilemma results --- the obtuse corners have greater influence, yes, but how much greater? In rhombus Anchor players are asked to explore this same question, but in the context of territory rather than connection. Mentioned briefly in Issue 5 of Abstract Games, this variant is the simplest form of Anchor that is still interesting to play. (Triangular Anchor, also mentioned in AG 5, is the most fundamental form of Anchor --- indeed, I suspect it is the most fundamental of all territorial games. It has the exact same rules as rhombus Anchor, except of course for the board shape. The game does not work very well in practice, because the center of the board assumes too much importance.)
