Rita Avram Schaffer (1923-2009)

Dear Friends,

We wish to let you know that our dear mother and
beloved wife of Robert, Rita Marie Avram Schaffer,
passed peacefully into heaven early on
Good Friday morning, April 10, 2009
after a short time of illness.
She was in the care of
St. Elizabeth (Hospital) Hospice, Edgewood, KY.

At age 85, Mom has, for quite some time,
been completely at peace with God, and very thankful for the full and rich life with which she was blessed.
In addition, she often expressed immense gratitude
for the many, many friends and colleagues she has
known and worked with throughout her long and formidable career as a Minister of Music.
While her job was with the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio,
Rita’s musical and personal connections crossed over all boundaries of age, faith, and culture.

One would have difficulty finding an acquaintance of
Rita’s who didn’t love her.
Probably the most-used phrase I have heard has been
“I saw your mom the other day. She is just the sweetest lady.”

Please know your presence is felt
regardless of where you may be.

Bob, Greg, Becky, and the family want you all to know how
deeply we have felt the support
from those of you who knew of her condition.
Your love, thoughts, and prayers continue to
comfort us in so many ways.
Please keep Rita, Bob, and the Schaffer family in mind for the coming weeks and months as we mourn
Rita’s loss, and begin to adjust to life without
her loving and brilliant presence.

What better time to celebrate her life and work than throughout the eternal promise and joy of the season of Easter?

As Mom was often heard to quote
(from a Bach cantata) over the years,
this sentiment rings as true now as ever.
“Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit.”
God’s time is the best of all times.

The family is requesting anecdotes or memories you may recall, of which there are sure to be many.
We want to fill a memory box full of treasures for her grandchildren, as well as for the rest of us.
Humorous or otherwise; all remembrances are welcome.

Memorials of any type may be sent to
