JAMES 2 VANDIKE  (John 1 VANDIKE ) was born circa 1785 in Russell County Virginia.  James died after 1840 in Missouri.   James married SUSANNAH MOORE the daughter of Joseph Moore between 1804-1807 in Tazewell County Virginia.  She was born in 1790 in North Carolina, and died after 1860

JAMES 2 VANDIKE   was a petitioner for the establishment of Tazewell Co., Virginia. On 27 December 1799, Tazewell County was formed from Russell County. 

1804 through 1820 Tazewell Co, Virginia Tax List:
JAMES 2 VANDIKE  paid taxes in Tazewell Co., Virginia.

December 27,  1808:  Three deeds were recorded from John Vandike and Charlotte his wife to his sons:  James, John Jr.,  and Charles Vandike for 69 acres each.  In 1819, he deeded 69 acres of land to his son, Israel.

In the 1820 there were the following James Vandike/Vandyke's living in Virginia:

1827 Government owned land purchased by JAMES 2 VANDIKE :
Grant Book 76, Page 1, 10 April 1827 - Tazewell Co., Virginia.  37 acres on waters of Indian Creek.

1830 Census:  Tazewell Co., Virginia:
JAMES 2 VANDIKE  Males:  1 (0-5); 1 (5-10); 1 (10-15); 1 (15-20); 1 (40-50) Females: 1 (5-10); 1 (10-15); 1 (40-50)

1840 Estate Records of Virginia: There are no estate records or signs of JAMES 2 VANDIKE  family in Virginia after 1840.   JAMES 2 VANDIKE  is thought to have migrated to Boone Co., MO.

1850, Appanoose County, IA., Census:   Susannah VANDIKE was found on the 1850, Appanoose County, IA., Census along with MILTON 2 VANDIKE  and William 2 VANDIKE.   JAMES 2 VANDIKE  must have died sometime between 1840 Boon County, MO and 1850 Appanoose County, IA.
 

JAMES 2 VANDIKE  and SUSANNAH MOORE had the following family:

i.  JOSEPH 3VANDIKE was born 1804, Tazewell County, VA, and died between 1845 - 1850. 

ii.  NANCY  3VANDIKE was born on January 12, 1811, Tazewell County, VA., and died on December 9, 1863, Richland, Shawnee County, KY.

iii.  MILTON  3VANDIKE was born 1814, Tazewell County, Virginia., 31 DEC 1835 married JUDGEZA (JULIZA) MUNCY,  born 1817 , Tazewell County, VA. 

iv.  UNNAMED  3VANDIKE was born 1815 - 1820.

v.  JAMES  3VANDIKE was born between 1820 - 1825

vi.  UNNAMED  3VANDIKE was born 1820 - 1825.

vii.  JOHN W.  3VANDIKE was born in 1822.

viii.  WILLIAM  3VANDIKE was born 1828, Virginia; married EMILY.

ix. QUINTON  3VANDIKE was born 1832, VA; married SUSANNA HACKER, on February 13, 1851 in Putnam County MO.

x.  It is belived that Aley or Alcy VANDIKE who married James M. PARTIN, Jan 1, 1843 in Adair County, MO is the daughter of James Vandike.
 

Note: 

1.  The following apear to be grand children of JAMES 2 VANDIKE  and Susannah MOORE:

(a) ARMINDA VANDIKE was born 1836, just before they left Tazewell County, Virginia for Missouri.  They later settled in Appanoose County Iowa.   Jean Stroud Powell provides the following on ARMINDA:  Some of the names in the family were Martin, Susanna, Quinton, Sarah Jane

(b)  JULIAN VANDIKE was born 1836, Tazewell County, Virginia; married LEWIS B. SMITH, on March 23, 1851, in Putnam County MO.  Can it be that Julian on the census should be JULIE ANN?
