Anita is a designer of contemporary handwoven clothing inspired by ethnic originals. In addition to the workshops and lectures she presents throughout the United States and Canada, she travels extensively to research ideas for her designs. She is the author of Clothing from the Hands that Weave; Handwoven Clothing, Felted to Wear; and I Don’t Do Guilt Anymore. Her articles appear frequently in major fiber publications. Her studio is located on Islewood Pond in Anacortes. Anita believes that there should be something magical and unique about what is worn each day and wants to share this concept of clothing with others.

       


W05 WOMEN ON THE EDGE
Pre-Conference Workshops, July 13-15

A new workshop that features a variety of edge techniques suitable for any type of fabric. These are simple but innovative ways to give a distinctive and individualized look to any project involving cloth. Each participant will complete a beautifully designed reference notebook of edging samples that include buttonhole variations, fringe treatment, beaded edges, and other creative means of edging cloth. Each page of the flip-type notebook will feature one completed sample along with the instructions.

Supplies: Scissors for paper and fabric; small jar of rubber cement; 12" ruler; pencil; eraser; regular sewing needle; thimble (optional); small, smooth piece white fabric to hold beads; olfa board and rotary cutter-if you have them (don't buy special).
Fee: $20.00 lab kit fee for all materials.

Saturday Morning Mini-Session, 9:00 – 11:30

A visual presentation of how to accessorize and wear handwoven clothing in order to present yourself in the best possible way. How to look taller, shorter, and slimmer by how you dress and accessorize. The style of garments that work for various body shapes will be demonstrated along with the visual impact of proportion and color. The instructor's handwoven wardrobe will be used throughout the seminar.

S213 TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR BODY! TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE!
Saturday Afternoon Mini-Session, 2:00 – 4:30 

A discussion and sharing of how to prioritize the events in your life, from children to husbands to aging parents, and have time for your creative self. Women of all ages face issues that are vastly different from those of our mothers. How do we stay mentally, physically and emotionally healthy as we attempt to balance these many demands? What is involved in the creative process and creative thinking? This workshop will include questions, journaling, small group discussion and techniques to explore.

Supplies: A wonderful, personal blank book, favorite pen.

S312 "VESTED INTEREST" (OR HOW TO CHANGE YOUR APPEARANCE, NOT YOUR BODY)
Sunday Morning Mini-Session, 9:00 – 11:30

This seminar will present an overview of how to transform one generic vest pattern into a wide variety of designs. The lecture/demonstration will cover such topics as weaving with sewing thread, recycling shoelaces, lining methods, making vests reversible, photo transfer methods, crazy quilting and modular weaving. Everyone will receive a basic vest pattern and learn how to size it.
