S313 BRAIDING 101 M506 RAFFIA MOCCASINS Judith is a skilled artisan
and has been teaching raffia hat making since 1993, receiving her training
from Australian hatter, Ann Fennell. In just a few short years, she has
woven a lifelong fascination with hats into a career, teaching hat making
and antique ribbonwork for a local community college. She enjoys sharing
her knowledge of their histories and traditions along with the hands-on
learning. Judith has her own line of raffia hats, a mail order catalog
for millinery supplies and recently opened a shop called JUDITH M in LaGrange.

S313 BRAIDING 101 Sunday Morning Mini-Session, 9:00 – 11:30 This seminar will focus on the processes involved in the coloring of fiber, yarn and/or fabric. Some of the areas to be covered will include the techniques of natural dye ing, synthetic dyeing (acid and reactive dyes), and food colorants used as dyestuffs. Color will be explored through the areas of randomization, gradations and overdyeing. “Tricks, tips and fun” will be generously shared as will many samples and examples. Supplies: Scissors.
M506 RAFFIA MOCCASINS Saturday Maxi Sessions, 9:00 – 11:30 AM and 2:00 – 4:30 PM Learn the art of weaving a comfortable pair of moccasins from raffia. We’ll fashion the moccasins from braided raffia, using our own feet as the sizing form. Supplies: Scissors.
