S117 KNITTED LACE EDGINGS AND COASTERS S315 KNITTED LACE S414 MAKING PICTURES WITH FIBERS ON FELT When polyester was all the
rage in the “70’s”, Suzanne went the other direction and became fascinated
with natural fiber fabrics. When she moved to Hastings, Michigan, she was
on hand for the first Fiberfest, where she discovered fiber animals and
has never looked back. She has acquired skills, knowledge and experience
in many of the fiber arts, but in the last 10 years has concentrated her
energies on discovering, perfecting and sharing the wonders of feltmaking.
In 1990 she began teaching and demonstrating feltmaking at historic festivals
and fiber guilds in Indiana. She is successfully marketing wearable felt
and writing for the North American Felter’s Network Newsletter. She has
had articles in the Fiberfest magazine, Small Farm Today, and the Marker
and Echoes (European Newsletter). She has compiled and published the Nineteenth
Century Hat Maker’s and Felter’s Manuals. Suzanne currently raises colored
sheep on a farm near Nashville, Michigan.

Supplies: One set of #2 double point needles;
1/2 oz. crochet cotton. (The instructor will have some available for purchase.)
S315 KNITTED LACE Sunday Morning Mini-Session, 9:00 – 11:30 A Repeat—See S117
Felt making is an easy way to create anything from simple abstract designs to detailed pictures on a fiber surface. In this hands-on seminar, participants will replicate a cartoon for a detailed design on a flat fiber surface. The felting properties of various fibers will be explained to assist the participants in selecting the proper fibers for the desired effect. Participants will choose from a variety of colored fibers in many textures to create a picture suitable for hanging. The fiber design will be added to backing fibers and the entire project will then be felted as a unit. Supplies: Students should bring
a cartoon or at least have an idea of what they would like to create.
