S119 SURFACE DESIGN: MONOPRINTING ON FABRIC AND/OR HANDMADE PAPER S219 SURFACE DESIGN. Class is cancelled. S317 WEAVING WITH MULTIPLE TENSIONS Donna Lee has been actively
working in fiber since 1980. She recently received a Master of Fine Arts
Degree, with a major in fiber, and is a recipient of HGA’s Master Weaver
Certificate of Excellence. The author of three books, a video and 100 articles
on fiber, she has taught fiber workshops throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Donna Lee has received several awards in juried exhibitions and has had
several one-person shows. She owns Blue River Studio in her home town of
Shelbyville. She teaches at Herron School of Art and the University of
Indianapolis. She enjoys teaching as much as creating and relishes the
challenge of introducing beginners to new art techniques while meeting
the needs of those with more experience.

S119 SURFACE DESIGN: MONOPRINTING ON FABRIC AND/OR HANDMADE PAPER Saturday Morning Mini-Session, 9:00 – 11:30 Monoprinting is a quick-and-dirty printing process that produces one-of-a-kind prints. In this hands-on seminar for beginners, participants will prepare 4–6 flat surfaces with inks (supplied by the instructor) and then create a single (i.e., mono) print from each prepared surface. The class will explore reductive and additive monoprinting techniques on fabric and/or handmade paper. Supplies: 2 yds. of heavy, clear plastic sheeting
(available at WalMart or hardware stores); brayer or rolling pin; sponge;
newspapers; toothbrush; plastic fork; serrated scraper from wallpaper departments
(optional—don't buy); 6 pieces of 24" x 24" muslin or other natural fabric,
washed, dried and ironed smooth; 6 pieces of handmade paper (optional);
pottery tools (optional) or other marking devices; small containers (film
canisters or baby jars) to take home remaining inks; paper towels; apron
or work smock; styrofoam meat tray to mix inks; various sized brushes for
applying inks.

Weavers not content to manipulate one warp at one tension will learn how to set up various looms to weave with multiple tensions. In this seminar for beginners and more experienced, we will also survey weaves worth the effort, such as seersucker, Bedford cord, pique and warp patterning. Supplies: None.
