S125 CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES FOR HANDWOVEN GARMENTS. Class is closed. S225 HANDWOVEN SWEATERS S322 DESIGNING A HANDWOVEN GARMENT Heather is a fiber artist and
teacher particularly interested in handwoven clothing. She thinks of her
designs as three-dimensional sculptures that encase and enhance the human
body. She uses subtle simplicity to adorn the body in a very positive way
and to make the wearer feel special by the very act of putting on a garment.
Nature provides most of her design inspirations: I love to interpret what
I see around me, either directly or in an abstract way, through color or
texture. Her educational background is in teaching and, after 31 years,
she still has a passion to share her knowledge with others. She has taught
at most of the regional weaving conferences, Arrowmont, Sievers, Touchstone
and all of the Convergences since 1990. Heather has written several articles
in national fiber magazines and is the author of the book More On Moorman:
Theo Moorman Inlay Adapted to Clothing.

Clothing is a communication system. Weavers have the distinct advantage of being able to design their garment style and their handwoven fabric to compliment each other. As individuals, we want to make a unique and positive statement about ourselves which reflects our personality and life style. Special considerations must be made in various areas such as design placement, flattering silhouette, desired drape, color, sett and weave structure. You will learn the interrelationship of these details and leave the seminar with enough ideas for a whole wardrobe of handwoven garments. Oh, if I just had enough time! Supplies: None.
